From Akhor to Zenith and encompassing the full biodiversity of the Swiss watchmaking scene, the pinnacles of
horological ingenuity are yours to explore! The 2020 launch of Geneva Watch Days and the exciting new
watchmaking season that blossomed on the shores of Lake Geneva – right across from the city’s famous flower clock – have led us to adjust the publication date of our iconic GMT XXL. Since 2002, it had been released at the start of summer to welcome the traditional tourists visiting Switzerland at the height of the season. Unique in the world for its production quality, its “monumental” format has consistently captivated watch enthusiasts. As the Geneva Watch Days have become a not-to-be-missed event for the watchmaking community, we’ve prioritized them since their second edition by aligning the event’s schedule with the release of the magazine – which is in fact the only such specialized publication appearing on this occasion. Many of the new models launched during the event are naturally featured within its pages, representing Haute Horlogerie’s rich diversity and incredible creativity.
As highlighted on the cover with Zenith’s surprising Chronomaster Solo Sport, watchmakers love geometry
and shapes, yet the most widely accepted form in watchmaking remains resolutely round. Whether for cases, dials, components, subdials, crowns, bezels, sapphire crystals or screws, the circle dominates. At a time when a cloud of uncertainty is spreading across the globe, watch brands seek to reassure consumers and preserve traditional points of
reference, with the vast majority thereby concentrating on this classic shape. Most of them are however slimming and trimming its thickness and diameter while injecting a sense of softness and cheerfulness, indulging in color variations on the dial, case – and even the oscillating weight. They are refocusing on their most iconic collections, drawing on their heritage while creating depth and texture at every level: on the front and back, as well as on the sides and
within the movement itself. Time is contextualized and these timepieces seem designed not only to capture attention but also to express gratitude for having been chosen. To showcase such a wealth of beautifully rounded curves and
keep them all in hand, nothing beats a rectangular format in a passionately XXL size.
