SWISSTAINABLE

Will the Swiss watch industry one day adopt a label like this one that belongs to the Swiss tourism sector? It is certainly taking measured steps in this direction. At a time of energy shortages and climate change, it is difficult not to consider a serious sustainable development and circular economy ethic. Especially since these criteria are increasingly important to new generations of customers and employees. Events such as the Luxury Innovation Summit and ReLuxury even place them at the heart of contemporary luxury and demonstrate that solutions do actually exist. We are dedicating our main feature in this winter edition to this theme, which we as publishers consider extremely important. Indeed, while we have long used paper from sustainably managed forests and organic inks for our magazines, since 2019 we have also been offsetting the carbon footprint of our physical and digital activities, with GMT Publishing being certified climate neutral by MyClimate. The luxury industry must set an example, as must its media partners. Will we one day print on algae-based paper, as ID Genève and Notpla are encouraging us to do?

But let’s get back to the creativity of our watchmakers, and the marvels they design for our greatest pleasure, starting with the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Starwheel and which we present on the cover. Throughout these 132 pages, you will discover a wealth of ingenuity and artistic talent, including the awardwinning watches in the 20 GPHG categories. And if your thirst for reading doesn’t stop there, it’s worth a reminder that our Millennium Watch Book collection has dedicated its last two volumes to two of these categories: tourbillons (2021), and diving watches (2022). In 2023, the theme will be chronographs. There is no shortage of energy when it flows naturally from our passion!
