GMT No 94 - Lady 2025

BRILLIANT!

We had to summon up tremendous patience. We had to be content with what we were offered, even if it didn’t always suit us. Sometimes we had to resign ourselves. Often we had to express our desires. Followed by more waiting. And then it happened. With no pomp and ceremony, but through a quiet evolution, we women who are passionate about watches, crazy about horological complications and love beautiful objects that are aesthetically appealing and technically consistent were finally able to rejoice in seeing that watchmakers are now taking notice of us. This strong trend towards more inclusive watchmaking is very good news. It obviously involves a general reduction in watch diameters so that everyone, regardless of wrist size, can choose according to their tastes, style and desires,
without worrying about the dictates of gender-related marketing. It also translates into the growing development of new collections or specifically feminine pieces. The latter sometimes flirt with jewelry, as evidenced by some of the
watches we have selected in this Lady by GMT, starting with the Grand Lady Kalla by Vacheron Constantin, which appears on our cover. They are also now, for the most part, powered by mechanical movements that are every bit as
good as those that were once reserved for men’s watches. In a way, these welcome developments reflect a form of recognition, and we have chosen to celebrate women through the watches and jewelry featured in the pages of this annual women’s special edition. We applaud their creativity and sensitivity, as illustrated by Marie-Laure Cérède, who
brings her talent to bear on Cartier’s watchmaking and jewelry. We applaud their strength of character through a conversation with Breitling ambassador, surfer Stephanie Gilmore. We admire their elegance and talent, as exemplified by actress Jennifer Lawrence, who wears Longines’ PrimaLuna to perfection. Now more than ever, women deserve watches and jewelry that pay tribute to them. Brilliant creations in every way, just like they themselves.
