Are you interested in Haute Horlogerie? Are you a watches aficionado? Since 2000, GMT Magazine tells you more about the inside of watchland.
Dozens of new releases, dozens of nominees, decades of celebrations: where to begin? Why not with a double anniversary being celebrated by the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève and our website, WorldTempus? Both were founded in 2001 by two entrepreneurs seeking to unite the leading watch brands around a shared vision to join forces in educating enthusiasts and promoting fine watchmaking: a mindset deeply cherished by GMT. Both were spot on, as watch export volumes have declined since then, yet value has increased. Nor indeed have volumes completely
plummeted, instead shifting toward vintage and pre-owned watches, a market that is becoming more structured and featuring prices that appeal to all generations. Geneva Watch Days is part of this momentum driven by the “new watchmaking” movement, fueled by a wave of emerging small independent watchmakers. The latter trend is observed
with goodwill and interest by the major established brands, which are nurturing their iconic models and burnishing their status. Many are still innovating; many are also working on ergonomics; while many continue to enhance their technical content and aesthetic appeal. Such is notably the case for Blancpain and its completely redesigned Villeret collection featured on the cover of this issue; for Bvlgari, of which the Watch division’s Managing Director outlines his strategy; as well as for Vacheron Constantin, whose Overseas collection marks its 30th anniversary with great finesse. On this new, extraordinarily diverse watchmaking scene, customers have much to celebrate: they are at the heart of every decision and have likely never enjoyed such a rich and varied selection. We showcase this with conviction and affection across some ten dozen pages, all crafted with passion and care. Are you one of the 3,000 readers we surveyed last summer? Perhaps you’ll recognize yourself in the portrait of our readers that we’ve drawn in this issue.
Sincere thanks for your loyalty and your own passion for fine watchmaking.
